How YOU can feed your breastfeeding baby

Let mom breastfeed without        bottles for the first 3 weeks so
she can make plenty of milk
Ask WIC how to get a breast
       pump
Help mom use the pump to
       express her milk
Now you have mom's milk to
       feed your baby

Tips on Feeding Baby From a Bottle

   Practice giving the first bottle
when baby is content or still
       sleepy
    Try different positions or
       different bottle nipples
    Some babies take bottles
       better when mom is not
       around
Wrap baby in mom's shirt or
       nightgown. Mom's smell will
help the baby want to eat

You Can Make a Differenece

When others tell mom:
"Are you sure your baby is
    getting enough?"
"Try to get the baby on a
    schedule. You're nursing all the
    time."
"How are you going to feed your     baby when you go out?"

Support mom by saying:
   "I think you're doing a great
    job."
"It makes me proud that our
    baby is healthy and happy."
"We can call WIC for support."

Ways You Can Spend Time With Baby:

Bring baby to mom to nurse
    Burp baby during feedings
    Bathe baby
    Hold and cuddle baby
    Take baby for a walk
Talk, sing, and read to baby
    Play with baby

Babies take a lot of time, no matter how they are fed.

Working together to fix simple meals and clean the house gives you more time to spend together.
